A pregnancy resulting from a mix-up of shots has led a Seattle woman to file a lawsuit against the federal government, according to the Huffington Post. Mother of two, Yesenia Pacheco, went to a NeighborCare clinic for a Depo-Provera birth control shot in September of 2012, but mistakenly received a flu shot. She became pregnant, and because abortion is against her personal beliefs, she decided to have the child, who was born with unilateral perisylvian polymicrogyria. The brain malformation affects the child’s speech, motor skills, and causes seizures. While Pacheco loves her child, the illness that her daughter was born with has further strained the migrant family’s resources. The family now seeks unspecified damages from the federal government, who funds the clinic, in their lawsuit.
