A nurse working with STAR Flight died during a rescue mission last week, according to NBC DFW. The nurse, 46-year-old Kristin McLain, was aboard a rescue mission at Barton Creek Greenbelt in Austin, Texas, when the hoist she was suspended from began to spin. McLain had just secured the patient when the spinning began, and the pilot attempted to correct it by moving the helicopter forward. McLain fell from the hoist, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Normal crew operations were performed before the mission, but STAR Flight will not perform any search and rescue missions for the time being.
