Early investigation results indicate that the accident that killed six college students in Berkley, California was the result of rotten wood beams, according to Buzzfeed. The accident took place on Tuesday just before 1 a.m. at a 21st birthday party off-campus. Thirteen students fell after the apartment’s balcony they were on went crashing down. As a result, six were killed – five of whom were visiting from Ireland, and several others seriously injured. The balcony did not have any additional support beams, and Berkley Mayor Tom Bates said that water damage leading to rot was likely the cause of the tragic accident.
