A Raleigh, North Carolina police officer is in the middle of a lawsuit he filed against coffee giant, Starbucks, for allegedly serving him hot coffee in a faulty cup, according to WRAL News. The officer, Matthew Kohr, claims after he was given a cup of free hot coffee in January of 2012, the lid popped off the cup and folded into itself, which caused him to spill the coffee on himself and resulted in third degree burns. Kohr alleges the burns set off his Crohn’s Disease, ultimately forcing him to have surgery to remove part of his intestine, use months of sick leave. Kohr says despite only being able to seek $750,000 in damages, his struggles are worth more. In fact, he said on the witness stand he believes he should be entitled to $10 million for the time he spent recovering from the incident.
