The heat wave currently passing through North Texas could ground two of the area’s CareFlite helicopters, according to NBC DFW. The two helicopters, both Agusta A109 models, are stationed at Dallas Methodist Medical Center and Frisco Fire Station #4 and will be grounded if temperatures reach 108. At those temperatures, pilots must reduce the weight due to the warm, thin air, in order to fly safely. However, DFW still has six other helicopters that can take over the affected areas if necessary, and the A109 helicopters are expected to be replaced next year.
