A mentally ill man left unattended in a Harris County jail cell will receive a $400,000 settlement, according to NBC DFW. Terry Goodwin was arrested in 2013 on a marijuana charge and was jailed in Harris County. Goodwin was found weeks later in a cell with a shredded uniform, trash, and feces. Two sergeants were charged with tampering with a government document after allegedly they indicated Goodwin was in good health and was regularly checked on. They were relieved of their duties, and six jailers were fired as a result of the incident. The $400,000 settlement was reached to account for Goodwin’s physical and emotional suffering.
