The family of a Virginia man that died in police custody has filed a $25 million lawsuit against the South Boston Police Department, according to Buzzfeed. 46-year-old Raymond Lambert Jr. died after police received several phone calls about Lambert’s erratic behavior at Super 8 Motel in May of 2013. Lambert allegedly agreed to go peacefully with police officers, but about an hour later, he was taken to a nearby hospital in cardiac arrest, where he later died. The lawsuit claims Lambert was tased multiple times, which an autopsy report confirmed. Lambert’s family believes there were no proper grounds for the use of a Taser, and is also requesting the removal of the officers involved from the police department.
