Bumble Bee Foods will pay $6 million in a plea agreement after the tragic death of an employee, according to WFAA News. The accident occurred at a plant in Santa Fe Springs, California, in 2012 as 62-year-old Jose Melena worked on a large oven. Melena was likely fixing or changing a chain in the oven when another employee dumped in 12,000 pounds of tuna and turned the oven on. Melena died as a result of those burns. His family will now receive $1.5 million from Bumble Bee, which also had to pay $1.5 million to the state’s courts and government, and another $3 million to purchase new automatic ovens.
