Several wrongful death lawsuits have been filed following the fatal South by Southwest accident that occurred last March, according to NBC DFW. The driver, Rashad Charjuan Owens, whom drove through a crowded Austin street while attempting to flee from police, is currently behind bars while he awaits trial for capital murder. The lawsuits, which are seeking unspecified damages, accuse SXSW officials of skimping on security and compromising the safety of the festival attendees. A safety report requested by city officials came to similar conclusions. This year’s festival is set to begin on March 17th, just a few weeks away, and crowds are expected to reach about 350,000.
