A record number of American vehicles have been recalled this year, adding up to 52 million, or one in five, according to the Dallas Morning News. General Motors, the company allegedly responsible for 27 deaths due a faulty ignition switch, makes up more than half of the recalls. This is up from 30.8 million in 2004. General Motors was also hit with a substantial lawsuit this year, and this may have led to other automobile makers being more aggressive in their recalls. CNN Money estimates that the 544 total recalls translates to two recalls being made a day.
