The South by Southwest music festival has commenced this year with greater security measures following last year’s tragic accident, according to NBC DFW. The accident took the lives of four people and injured multiple others after an intoxicated driver drove through a crowd of people during the festival. The driver, Rashad Owens, now faces capital murder for the crash, and several lawsuits have been filed against the SXSW, accusing organizers of weak security measures. The changes to be implemented this year include increased police presence, reducing overcrowding in venues and alcohol giveaways, and the curfew has also been moved up.
