After a Houston police officer forced a man to leave his elderly, blind dog behind following a traffic stop, a family has filed an official complaint with the police department, according to FOX DFW. The man was stopped for failing to use a turn signal and a police officer pulled him over last month. The officer found drugs, which belonged to a passenger, in the vehicle. He arrested both the driver and the passenger, forcing the man to leave behind his 14-year-old vision-impaired Chihuahua. The man claims he was not allowed to call anyone to pick up his pet, and the officer would not even call animal control. The Chihuahua was hit by a passing vehicle and killed. The charges against the man have since been dropped, and the mayor of Houston has apologized to the family, but they now hope to change the way the Houston Police Department handles these incidents.
