An explosion involving fireworks in central Texas killed one man, and injured several others Thursday afternoon, according to NBC DFW. A group of Kiwanis Club members were setting up the fireworks for a celebration to take place on Friday evening at a Comanche baseball field when a trailer holding a large quantity of fireworks exploded. A local chiropractor, Dr. Russell Reynolds, was killed; four were taken to a nearby hospital for burns, ranging from one-degree to three-degree. Three were treated and released, but one still remains in the burn unit. While the incident in under investigation, the Comanche Chamber of Commerce decided to cancel tomorrow’s fireworks show.

Holidays, while a time for celebrating with friends and family, can ultimately be an especially dangerous occasion. The fourth of July is upon is, which means more drivers on the roads and many will be celebrating with fireworks, so it is important to be extra cautious during the weekend’s festivities.
