Four years after their 13-year-old son committed suicide, a judge has ruled that his family can pursue a lawsuit against the Joshua Independent School District, according to the Dallas Morning News. Jon Carmichael was an eighth grade student at the time of his death; at school, he faced repeated harassment and bullying, including an instance where he was stripped, tied up, and put in a trash can. The incident was also taped and put on YouTube. His family claims that Jon’s pleas for help were ignored, which led them to initially sue the school district in 2011. That suit was dismissed in a Dallas court. The family can now go forward with their lawsuit against Joshua ISD, which will be held in a Tarrant County federal court.
