An Atlanta-area family is suing the city of East Point, which is located south of Atlanta, and two East Point police officers after a 24-year-old man died while in custody, according to the Huffington Post. The incident began after Gregory Towns Jr. had an argument with his mother and left her apartment complex. Towns was approached by two officers, and attempted to run away. The officers caught up to him, but Towns was too tired to cooperate. The lawsuit alleges the two officers used excessive force and may have used their stun guns 13 times or more on Towns. The police report of the incident claims the stun gun was used less than five times, but the Fulton County autopsy reports the manner of death as homicide, citing stun gun use and physical exertion. An investigation is underway to determine if the officers acted appropriately and whether the case should be presented to a grand jury.
