The family of a man killed by the LAPD last month has filed a lawsuit against the city, seeking $75 million in damages, according to the Huffington Post. Ezell Ford’s family accuses the officers of unlawful search and seizure of Ford, who had a history of mental illness. The officers are also accused of using excessive force on, and eventually killing, Ford. The police officers involved allege that Ford struggled during an investigative stop and attempted to take the handgun of one of the officers. Eyewitnesses have been varied in their accounts of what happened; an investigation by the LAPD’s Force Investigation Division and Robbery-Homicide Division is ongoing.
