After their 10-year-old daughter drowned last month in a newly opened city park, a family has filed a wrongful death against the city of Balch Springs, located outside of Dallas. According to the Dallas Morning News, the parents of Tamia Johnson believe that the park should not have opened without the planned safeguards, which allegedly included warning signs and a fence surrounding the pond, to prevent accidents such as their daughter’s death. The park, however, did have “follow me” signs leading to the pond, which Tamia’s parents believe enticed her toward the water; those signs have since been removed. The lawsuit, which also claims the water levels were unusually high, is seeking unspecified damages.
