The latest wrongful death lawsuit filed against the city of Dallas and its police department comes from the father of a mentally ill man that was killed by two officers last month, according to the Dallas Observer. The police officers involved allege that Jason Harrison, who may have suffered from schizophrenia, was acting aggressively and carrying a screwdriver, but the lawsuit claims that Harrison was unarmed and posed no threat during the confrontation. The lawsuit also alleges that the Dallas police department has a long history of using excessive force, and needs to reevaluate the way it handles incidents with the mentally ill. Harrison’s family members continue to ask for the videotape of the incident, but the department has refused to hand it over until the investigation is complete.
