After one former student filed a lawsuit alleging Emerson College mishandled her rape case, the school has stated that it has no legal obligation to prevent their students from being sexually assaulted, according to the Huffington Post. The woman filed the lawsuit last month, claiming the way her complaint was handled worsened her depression and PTSD, causing her to leave the school. The victim, whom withstood two trials after her assault, also alleges that the school did not interview a key witness and did not allow her to have a lawyer. The accused student was found not responsible in the first trial, but was expelled after a second hearing. The college, on the other hand, is seeking a dismissal of the case, arguing that an inadequate response alone is not illegal.
