After a Dallas police officer allegedly used excessive force on him during an arrest incident in 2009, Ronald Bernard Jones sued the city, and will receive a settlement of over $1 million, according to the Dallas Morning News. The Dallas City Council approved the settlement on Wednesday, five years after Jones’ original arrest. Jones was stopped as he was walking on Reunion Boulevard, by former officer Matthew Antkowiak, who left the department in 2012. A 2011 internal affairs investigation concluded that there were inconsistencies between the video of the incident and Antkowiak’s account. The two felony charges against Jones, whose face was considerably swollen in his mug shot photo, were also dismissed that year.
