The City of Dallas has agreed to a settlement of nearly $1 million to the family of Tobias Mackey, an unarmed man shot by a Dallas police officer in 2010, according to the Dallas Morning News. After three days of testimony, the two parties were able to agree on the settlement of $900,000; the family’s was originally asking for $5.4 million. Mackey was shot seven times by the officer at the breezeway of a Dallas apartment complex while the officer was investigating an unrelated report of criminal activity. Mackey was unarmed at the time of the incident. A settlement of $150,000 was also paid to the family of a child struck by one of the bullets during the same incident.
